Bali Street Dog Foundation

One of my good mates Alex is over in Indonesia helping out the Bali Street Dog Foundation (BSDF) as we speak.

To raise funds for the BSDF, which is a charity organisation who aim to solve the canine problems that currently exist in the streets of Bali, Alex took the bold step of setting up a BSDF t-shirt store.

Some of you may be aware that setting up any sort of organised production line operation in Bali is a pretty mean feat in itself. The Balinese cultural differences, in addition to language barriers, are certainly challenges that can inhibit the success of the manufacture of clothing within tight timeframes.

So this really is a success story on all counts, as not only were the BSDF t-shirts produced in a variety of appealing styles and colours in a matter of days, but Big Al is managing to turn over so serious Indonesian dosh (rupiah) for a good cause.

He wrote me a message the other day, after opening up the BSDF t-shirt stall for the very first time, located in front of the Hard Rock cafe in Kuta. Here’s what our foreign correspondent had to say….

Yesterday couldn’t be classified anything else other than a success. I moved 32 t-shirts and raised close to Rp 3,000,000 in the single day. Our start was scratchy and scary with only one customer for the first 2 hours, then the pace picked up mid-afternoon.

Half way though the day we called in the heavy artillery to do some damage and Soonja arrived….this tiny cute Bali puppy. Chicks just melted over it and it was an absolute magnet. Didn’t have too many complaints with the price (Rp 100,000) for the shirts, but I did swindle with some who didn’t have enough. Most people were just happy to give a donation, but a t-shirt running around with our logo and website is worth more than just a donation.

We are now expanding our range to chicks singlets with both black and white material….

Alex, on ya mate. You’re doing a darn good thing (with the BSDF that is….that photo of you above might need a bit of a pretty up in Photoshop).
