I am on a constant search for t-shirts that veer away from the norm. I take great pleasure in wearing t-shirts that are uncommon, and which have their own personality and zest! Such t-shirts are rare as hen’s teeth due to the fact that most modern fashion is mass-produced.

So where should a t-shirt afficiondo turn to find a unique t-shirt, if they are indeed so rare? I’ll give you a 2 clues…it starts with ‘e’, and ends with ‘Bay’.

eBay is Australia's leading online market place

You may have read my previous article describing some lesser-known search techniques for refining your eBay t-shirt searches. And you may have started deduce that I love eBay. It’s great. Remember those treasure hunts you went on as a kid. I reckon eBay is like one of them that goes on forever.

But to uncover the hidden t-shirt treasures on eBay, you really have to know what your looking for.

And that means using the right keywords.

By utilising intelligent keywords radicool & unique t-shirts will surface with simplicity.

So here’s a few TOP SECRET keywords I have had success with in the past… (I probably shouldn’t be sharing these, because now you’ll nab all the good t-shirts on eBay. You owe me a beer or two!)

Before I reveal them, I suggest you jump on the ebay site right now.
Go to Clothing and Accessories > Men (or if your a chickadee, Women) > T-Shirts.

Now you’re in the right spot, test out a few of the keywords displayed below, by typing them in the “Search” box as shown below. Are you feeling lucky punk?

THE KEYWORDS

  • funky
  • It’s a bit of a buzzword at the moment, so some of the more alert designers out there are using this word to grab attention

  • unique
  • Speaks for itself really. If someone lists a t-shirt as unique, chances are that it is (for whatever reason…I wouldn’t be at all surprised if a shirt was advertised on eBay as unique due the the red wine stain on the front that resembled E.T. Stranger things have happened…)

  • one off
  • If the seller is telling the truth, then a shirt advertised as a “one off” is guaranteed to be a unique work of art. Whether it is an appealing artwork or not is another thing!

  • trendy
  • Another buzzword. Perhaps a little overused and common, this keyword may return a few pretty average results however has been known to produce the goods on occasion

  • cool
  • Cool is also grossly overused in our modern language. Nevertheless, type it in and sit pretty. Sometimes there is not other way to describe a t-shirt that is dead cool besides stating the obvious

  • designer
  • This keyword has been latched onto by many t-shirt sellers of late (who are trying to hock their Armani, Luis Vuitton and Hugo Boss gear), so there may be a few undesired results in this search. However a little patience may also uncover local or new “designers”. Also try it’s variation “designed” (some upcoming t-shirt producers like to write “locally designed” or “designed by xxxx” in their item descriptions)

  • stock
  • Stock – what the? No, it’s not a typo. Recently I stumbled across a bundle of rad t-shirts on eBay. They were from a Sydney designer fashion label, selling “old stock”. Get it now? People are beginning to capitalise on eBay to sell surplus stock, factory seconds, damaged stock etc. Experiment with such words you might get lucky too

  • tsubi”
  • Tsubi is the latest and greatest Australian clothing label. I gotta admit, they do produce some cool stuff, however it is produced in fairly large production runs and hence isn’t all that unique. However, searching for Tsubi (or whatever brand you consider *hot* at the moment) can also reveal unique t-shirts. Smart t-shirt sellers with similar products will often write “like Tsubi” in their eBay item description to get the attention of the masses. It works too – they got my attention!

  • sample
  • One of my favourite t-shirts is a “sample” print from a major clothing label that was never produced. Why they never produced it I will never know…

So the moral of the story is?

Having a play with keywords on ebay.com.au is more fun than a ferret down you trousers

Have a go, you’ll be pleasantly surprised (nooo, I don’t mean the ferret!)
