Strange-Ways is a new start-up tee company from Salford in the United Kingdom set up by a group of friends early in 2009. The project has been designed as a creative outlet for the IT and Communication professionals who would much rather be creating classic tees than selling software.

Understandable really.

“The basis of the company is to produce tees inspired from degenerative human behaviour and generally anything in the world that’s just so obviously wrong that it deserves a pop at it,” states Griff, the main designer.

“We’re working on loads of other stuff; crime, odd behaviour and all forms of social decay. But also in our firing line is the perceived mainstream elements of society which when you think about them just don’t add up. That’s just as weird as any of the really bad stuff. Like banks. Although actually, they’re pretty bad.

The Strange-Weapons are a good example really. Utterly useless.  Tony Wilson of Factory Records (ex defunct label of Joy Division, New Order and The Happy Mondays) use to quote that “nothing useless can truly be beautiful” but I would like to think we proved him wrong. Probably a bit of an anti-violence statement which should be obvious but yet everyone accepts that governments back big companies who flog guns to countries that should really be spending cash on far more important things like education. Most people might not like it, but they except it. Can’t be right.

We don’t want to preachy with the t-shirts. We’re not radical anarchists d’you what I mean? Strange-Ways for us is meant to be fun and an enjoyable experience but we couldn’t pass up on should a rich source of inspiration. We had to start somewhere and there’s plenty to get through on that topic.

The initial t-shirts were about taking as much out from the design as possible until the message didn’t communicate any more. At that point, you’re close to getting it perfect. That’s my favourite sort of design. Clinical.  We also couldn’t afford to go crazy on the colours either as we’re running this on a shoestring but I’m sticking with my earlier response. It sounds cooler.

We’ve put a lot of thought into the designs and it’s a chance for people to pick up something that you can’t get on the high street. We like them anyway.”

The first three designs are all limited edition printed on extremely high quality Continental N03’s with water-based inks giving a  very soft finish to the product complete with tagged logos stitched into the seam.

Currently if you add in your email to the Strange-Ways  newsletter you are in with a shout to win an iPod Touch at the end of the month so sign up for that. Anyone buying a t-shirt from the website should also use the exclusive coupon “Tshirt Alert” for 20% off until the end of the month.

Grab a limited tee before they go.
