I fell in love with Hip-Hop before I fully understood what it was. Through the years, I have found out that Hip-Hop is a culture that consist of the MC, The B-Boy, and The DJ and last but not least, The Graffiti artist. The first 3 components are well known, but the last one, is the one that gets overlooked. Serye Designs (www.seryedesign.com) makes up for that with their artwork. A t-shirt is just a blank canvas without art and imagination. And imagination is what separates those who lack creativity from those that dive head first into it. When I look at their garments I can’t help but see movement. I don’t know if that was their intention, but it’s definitely there. Not a surprise though, because Hip-Hop is full of movement and Serye Designs doesn’t seem like a company that remains stagnant.
Opening up their package that I received was like hitting the lottery. Out spilled four exclusive t-shirts for me to analyze, dissect, and review. The first thing that I noticed is that the shirts seemed kind of big to be XL size but nonetheless the material (100% cotton) was very soft to the touch. Serye also decided to go tag-less which is starting to become a trend.
Due to time constraints, I decided to just focus on two of the four shirts for this review. So the 1st shirt, “Mad Beastie” is one of my favorites.

A blue shirt consisting of a funky font that spells the name of the shirt. I love how the color of the words fades from a light orange to a white and encircled in a pink outline of a cloud. A neon crown over the word “Mad”, and logo completes the design on the front of the shirt.
On the back of the shirt, near the neck line, is another logo with the statement, “Serye Heavy Hitters Foundation” which is a staple on all of their garments.
Overall, a very clean design. With me being a certified “Hip-Hop Head” I could definitely see myself rocking this at a concert or just relaxing at home listening to my many CD’s. The 2nd shirt is called the “S.Monster”.

First thing that I thought when I saw it was “Spongebob Squarepants”. But the more you look at it; it is definitely not the popular cartoon character. Designed with vibrant colors, full of yellows, oranges, teals, light blues, and greens, on a 100% cotton purple shirt, it is definitely a eye-catcher.
To try and describe the image is a mission in itself, but it looks to be an oozing letter “S” covered with several eye balls over a liquid water puddle. I know when Serye Design reads this, they would fall over laughing at my description, but it was the only way I could give my readers an idea of what it looks like in person. With that said, it’s an incredible design. Very creative.
So as I stand in my B-Boy stands, and look at the other two shirts (Power Moves and Lurkers)
I can’t help but feel proud to be a part of the Hip-Hop movement. We all know about how clothes play an important part in music and Serye Designs is continuing that legacy. After seeing subway trains, buildings and overhangs covered in artwork, and wondering who did that? Who created this masterpiece? Who took time to express their love of Hip-Hop? I now know it was the Graffiti artist. Or was it a clothing designer? Or maybe, their one in the same.
