How’s it going Tshirt Alert readers? My name’s Mattias – I run the clothing line Hamburger Disco (www.hamburgerdisco.com), and I’ll be posting here periodically as a guest author (thanks Jake!).
For my very first post, I didn’t only want to talk about Hamburger Disco – I also wanted to shine a spotlight on some other great brands right here from Vancouver, BC. Without further ado, the brands:
A lot of people ask me “why hamburgers? why disco?”. I say “why not?”. The truth is the name actually came about after a trip to Japan a few years ago. It was my first time to Tokyo and I noticed that they really loved their hamburger couture – they had hamburgers on everything! There was a stationary set, hamburger cd cases, all sorts of hamburger plush toys, but most importantly there was this hamburger t-shirt. It was amazing – a double sided 7 color flock printed hamburger with the word “rough” on it. Sadly they did not have my size. It was then that realized “hey! I want to… no I need to start rocking more hamburgers – everyone needs to”. Thus Hamburger Disco was born. The disco was added to give it some fun – because that’s we’re all about.
This brand is pretty big Japan and the rest of Asia – lately I’ve been seeing more and more people in Vancouver wearing it. I discovered Wrongwroks when I did an internship at local awesome store Voltage. What I love about this brand is that the designer behind Wrongwroks, Tony Wong, breaks all the rules when it comes to design. He uses icons from other brands and makes something that’s neither a rip-off or parody, but rather something completely new. He’s got Spongebob & Patrick, McDonalds, Supreme, Doraemon, Adidas, Winnie the Pooh and more all in the mix. Definitely worth checking out. Waffles Girls Don’t Die! You damn right they don’t! What I like about these girls is just that they’re super fun. If all the hamburgers in the world went missing, I wouldn’t mind eating a waffle or two.
